GRYMES HILL — A drunk off-duty NYPD sergeant crashed his SUV into the backyard of a Grymes Hill home early Sunday morning, officials said.

Derek Gilson, 32, of New Springville, was driving his 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe on Longview Road when he crashed into a pole on the sidewalk at about 1:08 a.m., prosecutors said.

He continued driving, smashing into the backyard of 108 Longview Road, prosecutors said.

"I made a turn and ended up in the sideyard," Gilson told police, according to court documents.

Police said Gilson's breath smelled of alcohol and he had bloodshot eyes but he refused a breathalyzer test.

Gilson was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired at his arraignment on Sunday and was released without bail, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
