UNION SQUARE — Free HIV testing will be available near Union Square all day on Tuesday.

The Department of Health and health groups including Community Health Network NYC will set up mobile testing units around the park at Union Square East and West and East 17th Street to give rapid HIV tests from 3 to 8 p.m., according to a spokeswoman for the Union Square Partnership.

Results take just 20 minutes to come in, and the groups will have counselors on hand to explain the test, walk people through their results and let them know how to access more resources regardless of a positive or negative result, according to the Community Health Network's website.

The test can be done with a finger stick, or a saliva strip for people who shy away from needles.

The event is being held in recognition of National HIV Testing Day, which is on Monday.
