Drunk Slams Car Into NYPD Officer's Home, Then Returns to Say Sorry: Report

By Nicholas Rizzi | June 14, 2016 10:41am

ELTINGVILLE — A drunk driver slammed into the backyard and pool of an NYPD officer's home early Monday morning — then returned hours later to apologize, NBC 4 reported.

Michael Spallieri, 56, drove into the Brandis Avenue home of Officer Louis Mester around midnight on Monday, nearly destroying Mester's deck and crashing into his pool, NBC reported.

Mester told the news station that Spallieri stumbled out of the car reeking of alcohol and begged Mester not to call the police.

"He was moving around crazy, he couldn't stand still, couldn't keep his balance," Mester told NBC.

Spallieri was arrested and charged with DUI. He returned to the scene Monday evening to apologize to Mester for the damage, NBC reported.

"I don't know," Spallieri told the news station when asked if he was drunk Monday morning.

"They're doing toxicology tests. I'll know Thursday or Friday."
