BROOKLYN — The mother of a 2-year-old girl killed in a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment fire has been indicted by a grand jury in connection to the death, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office said.

Leila Aquino, 21, was indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child on June 9, court records show.

Aquino was arrested on Feb. 23 after her daughter, Kaleenah Muldrow, was found dead in a Monroe Street apartment following a blaze that tore through the home, officials said.

The mother told officials she had left the toddler alone at home for hours and returned to the apartment after the fire was extinguished, according to court papers.

City caseworkers had visited the home prior to the fatal fire but found no indication that Aquino had trouble caring for her daughter, officials with the city’s Administration for Children’s Services said.

An attorney for Aquino was not immediately available for comment.
