WILLIAMSBURG — A 5-year-old boy died after falling off a fifth-floor Brooklyn balcony Wednesday night, police said.

Shimon Meisels, whose parents were home at the time, tumbled from their Wallabout Street apartment balcony, near Middleton Street, minutes before 9 p.m., NYPD officials said.

Shimon, the youngest of four children, was pronounced dead at Brooklyn Hospital, police said.

Neighbors were heartbroken by the boy's death.

"He was very, very cute, beautiful kid. The mother and father are very caring, more so than the norm. I've never seen such caring parents," said Sam Zupnick.

"He was always playing and smiling. I saw him yesterday morning. He was playing before school. It's painful. It's very painful."

There were no immediate arrests or summonses issued, but police said their investigation is ongoing.

The city's Administration of Children's Services is "actively investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic death of this child," a spokeswoman said.
