BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — An irreverent thief snatched a pair of sneakers from a man who was praying at a Brooklyn Heights mosque — then took off wearing the stolen shoes, police said.

The 30-year-old victim was praying at Masjid Dawood at 143 State St. around 5:38 p.m. on May 10 when the suspect came in and took his black Michael Jordan sneakers off a shelf, the NYPD said.

He also took the victim’s wallet containing $120 in cash out of his jacket, which was resting on a chair, police said.

The suspect then fled, leaving his own shoes at the mosque, according to police.

The victim was able to cancel his credit cards before the thief used them, police said.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt, long pants and the victim's sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
