Man Gets Rear-Ended by Cab, Then Punched by Its Passenger, NYPD Says

LOWER EAST SIDE — The passenger of a cab that rear-ended another vehicle got out to punch the driver of the car that was hit before jumping back into the taxi and speeding off, police said.

The 56-year-old victim told police he was rear-ended by a green cab at Grand and Willett streets at around 11:05 p.m. on April 30.

When the victim got out of his car to photograph the cab, the taxi's male passenger got out and punched him in the face with a closed fist, police said.

The passenger then hopped back into the cab and fled westbound on Grand Street, according to authorities. 

Other recent crimes in the 7th Precinct include:

► A thief snatched a woman's Coach purse on Henry Street before dropping it on the street, police said.

The woman was walking near 229 Henry St. on April 22 at around 8:41 p.m. when a man approached and forcibly grabbed her purse from her body, police said.

The suspect then ran down Henry Street to Montgomery Street, dropping the purse on Montgomery Street as he fled, according to authorities. 

► A woman in her 20s beat up a 58-year-old woman after a verbal dispute about who bumped who on the sidewalk on April 22, police said.

The women got into an argument in front of 102 Clinton St. at around 6:05 p.m. after bumping into each other, according to authorities.

The suspect punched the victim multiple times, knocking her to the ground, then proceeded to kick her repeatedly, police said.

The victim had bruises and scratches on her forehead and right cheek and on her right eye, according to a police report. 

The suspect fled in an unknown direction, authorities said.
