Verrazano Bridge Lower Level to Close Sunday for 5 Boro Bike Tour: MTA

FORT WADSWORTH — The lower level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed Sunday for the annual Five Boro Bike Tour, the MTA said.

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the bridge will be closed from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. when cyclists in the annual tour cross the bridge to get to Brooklyn, the MTA said.

On the Brooklyn-bound side, one lane of the lower level will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the tour.

The upper level will remain open in both directions but drivers should expect delays, the MTA said.

Other closures near the bridge during the tour include:

► Bay Street exit of the Staten Island Expressway from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
► BQE approach to the bridge from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
► 92nd Street entrance ramp to the Staten Island-bound lower level from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m.
► Belt Parkway entrance ramp to the Staten Island-bound lower level from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The tour will also force traffic exiting the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel in Brooklyn to be diverted to Hamilton Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Trinity Place exit in Manhattan to be closed between 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the ramp to the FDR Drive from the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge to close from 7:45 a.m. to noon, the MTA said.
