BATTERY PARK CITY — An old-school suit-maker is getting a modern makeover in Lower Manhattan.

Hickey Freeman, a luxury custom suit tailor based in Rochester, N.Y. since 1899, opened its first New York City store Monday inside Battery Park City's upscale mall at Brookfield Place.

The menswear clothing brand, which sells garments still crafted by artisans in Rochester, has updated the look and cut of shirts, pants, suits and jackets, Racked reported.

The shop in Brookfield Place has ready-to-wear pieces, but men can also purchase custom-made clothing after getting a fitting in the store.

Custom shirts cost between $250 and $295 and a made-to-order suit costs anywhere from $1,795 to $5,000, a store manager said. Suits take about four to five weeks to make and shirts take three to four.

Hickey Freeman's target clientele is not the "old power guy." Instead the brand is catering to the "cooler modern man," according to Racked.

The brand has plans to open other shops in the city, with its next possible location on the Upper East Side, Women's Wear Daily reported.
