THE BRONX — The suspect charged with murdering a 27-year-old man near Fordham University on Tuesday said he stabbed his victim with scissors after they got into a fight, according to court papers.

Eric Ortiz, 54, was arraigned on Friday for the murder of Christopher Cabrera and ordered held without bail, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Ortiz and Cabrera were fighting at the corner of Elm Place and Fordham Road on Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. when Ortiz stabbed Cabrera in the side of his torso and ran away, according to police and court documents.

Cabrera was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and pronounced dead, and Ortiz was arrested for the crime soon after.

He has been charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, and he is due back in court on March 8, according to the Bronx DA's Office.
