BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn dollar store employee was slashed across the neck after confronting a known shoplifter on Thursday, police said.

William Clifton, 21, and his female companion were in Family Dollar at 2010 Atlantic Ave. at about 2:24 p.m. when the 40-year-old worker confronted them, according to the NYPD.

The men started to argue and the shoplifter then pulled out a box cutter and slashed the employee across his neck, police said.

Clifton and the woman fled and were apprehended a short time later at Dean Street and Ralph Avenue.

The worker was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, an NYPD spokeswoman said, and was in stable condition on Friday.

Clifton, who lives on Decatur Street Bed-Stuy, was charged with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.

He was expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court Friday night.
