QUEENS — This year’s Taste of the World, an annual food festival hosted by a Forest Hills parish, will showcase more than 15 local restaurants, including several “newcomers,” the organizers said.

The event, in its fifth year, is held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, and attracts hundreds of local foodies every year.

This year attendees will get to taste samples of signature dishes and desserts from some of the best Forest Hills gastropubs, wine bars and ethnic restaurants, which serve a variety of cuisines, including Italian, Peruvian, German, Irish, Indian, Middle Eastern, Greek and Japanese, the organizers said.

Among the well-known eateries presenting their delicacies, will be Tuscan Hills, Ovo Sodo, Banter, Jack & Nellie's, Keuka Kafe, East Ocean Palace, La Vigna, Manor Oktoberfest, Haveli, Wafa's, La Dolce Italia and Corfu Grill.

But the event, scheduled for Sunday, March 13, will also highlight several restaurants and food stores that opened in the neighborhood just recently, including Cipollina Italian Market, Violet's Bake Shoppe, Matiz and Shogun Hibachi.

"By bringing some of the neighborhood’s best known eateries and some of the newer restaurants in the area together to serve samplings of their signature dishes, the restaurants can meet potential new customers and the people who come to eat may find restaurants they’ve wanted to try but haven’t had a chance to," said Karen Brogno, one of the organizers.

"For us, it creates goodwill with the community, encouraging a variety of people to come together to enjoy an afternoon together with good food," she added.

The ticket price, the organizers said, mostly helps offset the setup of the hall and renting tables and supplies.

During the event, raffle tickets will also be sold separately to benefit the church.

The annual Taste of the World food festival will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church (inside School Auditorium at 72-55 Austin St., entrance at back of parking lot on 72nd Road off Austin Street), on Sunday, March 13, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 at doors ($20 in advance).
