CHELSEA — An envelope with $2,000 in cash was stolen from a safe inside a fashion-centric bookstore near FIT, police said.

A manager at Fashion Design Books at 250 W. 27th St. had locked the safe with 100 $20 dollar bills inside and left the key in an unlocked drawer, police said.

All the cash was in the safe when the manager counted the money around 8:15 a.m. on Feb. 18 but was missing the next day, according to police.

An employee at the store, which sells fashion-related books and art and sewing supplies, reported the theft at 8:05 p.m. on Feb. 19, police said.

A manager at the store on Wednesday declined to comment.
