WILLIAMSBURG — Five people were hurt when a fire tore through Woops! cafe on Driggs Avenue Wednesday morning, officials said.
The blaze erupted in the rear of the cafe at 548 Driggs Ave., near Seventh Street, just minutes after 7 a.m. and climbed into the apartment above, according to FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Woods.
"There was heavy smoke throughout [and] fire in one apartment on that second floor," Woods said.
One tenant managed to scramble to safety using the fire escape, but firefighters had to rescue others, Woods said.
"We pulled two people form the window on the second floor," Woods said.
One civilian was treated for minor injuries at Beth Israel and three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, an FDNY spokesman said.
