NEW YORK CITY — Service suspensions and delays marred the Friday evening commute as both the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak were hit with issues.
Local service between Jamaica and Penn Station on the LIRR was restored around 7 p.m. after having been suspended due to a disabled train around 4 p.m. Friday, according the MTA.
Some residual delays continued on the LIRR due to the service disruption as the trains began running again.
Westbound services on the LIRR was suspended between Jamaica and Penn Station when a stalled train was taken out of service after a "bang" sound was reported, according to a spokesman for the LIRR.

There were no reported system-wide delays going eastbound out of the city, according to an MTA spokesman.
The MTA is cross-honoring tickets for E train, OEM said.

Amtrak was also experiencing delays Friday evening between New York and New Jersey due to a track issue in the north tube of the Hudson River Tunnel, according to an Amtrak service alert.

Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said that the track condition was fixed around 5:30 p.m. and service resumed after residual delays.
