UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The man arrested for raping and robbing a woman in the stairwell of an apartment building on East 183rd Street beat and throttled his victim during the attack, the Bronx District Attorney said.

Raymond Jenkins, 22, of Brooklyn, is suspected of following a woman into the elevator of a building in University Heights on Feb. 5 around 9:45 p.m. and grabbing her from behind when the elevator door opened, police said.

He dragged her into a stairwell, broke her teeth by repeatedly hitting her in the face and reached down her shirt to steal some money, prosecutors said.

Jenkins sexually assaulted his victim against the stairwell and stole two cellphones from her when her purse fell to the floor, according to the NYPD and the criminal complaint.

He has been hit with charges including rape, robbery and assault and was arraigned on Thursday.

Jenkins was ordered held without bail and is due back in court on Feb. 17, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
