RED HOOK — Red Hook residents will have a chance to scrutinize the planned Citywide Ferry Service during a public meeting with city officials Feb. 18.

The Economic Development Corporation will discuss the potential locations of docks in the neighborhood as well as details of the service, spokesman Ian Fried said.

The presentation will take place during Community Board 6's transportation and public safety committee meeting Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Miccio Center, located at 110 W. 9th St.

Locals are encouraged to offer their feedback on the service.

Early last year, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the expanded ferry service for Astoria, southern Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, Soundview in The Bronx and Rockaway Beach.

The new Brooklyn routes, which include Red Hook, are planned to launch in 2017.

EDC officials told residents last fall that they were weighing two potential dock locations in Red Hook — the pier at Valentino Park and at the far end of the pier at Van Brunt Street.

But locals instead pushed for a stop at Atlantic Basin, which they said would be more accessible to homes and local businesses.

Community Board 6 voted in September to support the plan for expanded ferry services, on the condition that the city studied other potential dock locations, including Atlantic Basin, Brooklyn Paper reported.

Officials had previously said Atlantic Basin was a no-go because of its security restrictions at the adjacent Brooklyn Cruise Ship Terminal and the basin's small opening that would require the ferries to slow down for too long, adding several minutes to each trip.
