NEW YORK CITY — Seven New York City colleges have received more than $13 million in state grants to support a variety of capital improvement projects, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.

The funds were awarded from the state’s Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program. Recipient institutions must commit $3 to the projects for every $1 provided by the state.

Here's a look at which schools got funding and the projects they've earmarked the money for:

Fordham UniversityThe school received $2.5 million for renovations to its former Law Building, which will now be used for new academic activities on the school’s Lincoln Center campus, according to spokesman Bob Howe.

New York University: The school was granted $2.5 million to update lab equipment in the Tandon School of Engineering, according to school spokesman Matt Nagel. Nagel said the labs are used by students studying chemical, bimolecular, mechanical and aerospace engineering.

New York Institute of Technology: Nada-Marie Anid, the dean of the New York Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering and Computer Sciences, said the $842,633 the state provided the school will help pay for its new Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center.

The Center was constructed as a business incubator on the school’s Old Westbury campus on Long Island, and will connect tech startups with students, Anid said. Students on NYIT’s Manhattan campus will be able to work collaboratively with those at the facility, Anid explained, using video conferencing and other networking technology.

► Columbia University School of NursingThe construction costs for the new home of the Columbia University School of Nursing will be partially offset by the $2.5 million the school received from the state. The facility is scheduled to open on 168th street in 2017.

Dr. Bobbie Berkowitz, the dean of the nursing school and the vice president of the Columbia University Medical Center, said the funds come “at a time when advanced practice nurses are playing an ever-greater role in the healthcare delivery system,” adding that the new building will be outfitted with advanced technology, a rooftop garden terrace, and a modern simulation center.

New York Academy of ArtMore than $1 million was directed to the New York Academy of Art for a top-to-bottom rehabilitation of the school’s TriBeCa building, according to a spokeswoman.

► Metropolitan College of New YorkThe Metropolitan College of New York received $1.25 million for the purchase and installation of equipment on its new campuses in The Bronx and Manhattan.

► St. John’s University: The Queens college was awarded $2.5 million for renovations to Bent Hall, an academic and administrative space.
