QUEENS — Value Depot, a popular discount store that has been a longtime fixture on 71st Avenue in Forest Hills, will close soon only to be replaced by another discount chain.

The store, at 107-25 71st Ave., between Queens Boulevard and Austin Street, is located in the heart of the neighborhood's commercial area and offers mostly clothes and home goods.

Value Depot, which, according to its employees, is slated to close by the end of February, is currently holding a clearance sale. Signs that read "Everything Must Go" and “Clearing Out 67 Cents on the Dollar" cover the store’s entrance.

A manager at the store said that in a couple of weeks Value Depot will be replaced by another discount chain under different ownership. It will be called Gembron and will offer similar items, he said.
