TIMES SQUARE — A burglar posing as a hotel maintenance worker stole $600 from tourists staying in a Times Square hotel, police said.

Three tourists from Brazil and a tourist from Belize were inside a room at the Hotel at Times Square, at 59 W. 46th St., on Jan. 31 around 8:50 p.m. when a man wearing a dark jacket with white stripes knocked on their door and told them he was a maintenance worker sent to inspect a faulty radiator, the NYPD said.

The suspect told them a radiator near the hotel room door wasn’t working and he started to “inspect” it, holding a yellow paper with “Manhattan Hotel” printed on it, police said.

The man told the guests — two 56-year-old men from Brazil, a 46-year-old woman from Brazil and a 21-year-old woman from Belize — that he’d finished his inspection and then left the room, police said.

When one of the 56-year-olds checked his wallet, he discovered $600 in cash missing.

He and the other tourists told police they didn’t see the worker take the cash.

Police searched the hotel for the maintenance worker, but turned up short.

A representative for the Hotel at Times Square did not respond to a request for comment on Friday.
