BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Police are searching for a man who they say pistol-whipped a cashier at a Lafayette Avenue supermarket and robbed the business of $1,600.

The armed robber entered the Ideal Food Basket store at 830 Lafayette Ave. and Marcus Garvey Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, telling an employee, “Give me the money or I’ll kill you,” according to police.

The suspect struck a 22-year-old worker with the gun and fled on foot with cash from the register, the NYPD said.

Video released by police shows the suspect, who they say is 5-foot-11 and was wearing a hoodie, as he brandishes the gun and attacks the cashier.

During the incident, an employee brought 20 customers into a meat locker to hide, NBC New York reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
