RED HOOK — The man behind one of Brooklyn's most popular barbecue joints has plans for a new fried chicken eatery in Red Hook.

Billy Durney will open Hometown Fried Chicken at 329 Van Brunt St. at Sullivan Street in June, according to Instagram posts and Eater

The space is the former location of Al's Wine & Liquor, which shuttered last year.

Hometown Bar-B-Que has been smoking up the waterfront since 2013 after opening at 454 Van Brunt St. by Fairway Market, and has turned into a go-to spot for barbecue lovers in the city.

Durney tells Eater that the fried chicken restaurant will be driven by take-outs and deliveries with only 30 to 40 in-house seats. The menu is slated to also include biscuits and doughnuts.

Nearby on Columbia Street, another Southern fried chicken shop from celebrity chef Carla Hall is scheduled to open next month.
