CHELSEA — A local electronics startup is throwing a party for female "Minecraft" players.

On Feb. 6, littleBits — which produces electronic building blocks to promote invention and “democratize” hardware — is inviting female Minecraftians to its headquarters at 601 W. 26th St. to meet other players, munch on pizza and participate in a "Minecraft"-centric workshop.

At the “Girls Who Mine” event, attendees will learn more about littleBits’ “Bitcraft mod,” which allows players to build their own circuitry with magnetic electronic pieces in the real world, then link the circuit to a computer and use it to control things in the "Minecraft" world like doors and switches.

"Minecraft" players who have a laptop, phone or tablet with the game already installed are invited to bring their gear, but players can still participate in the workshop without one, organizers said.

Girls who attend the events usually range in age from 8 to 12 — the event requires participants to attend with a parent or adult guardian — but players of all ages are welcome.

Tickets for the event are $5 for players and include both the workshop and pizza provided by littleBits.
