KIPS BAY — A Queens man was arrested after he dumped a load of pistol and rifle bullets on the ground outside of the Strauss Houses, though he didn't have a gun to go with them, police said.

Officers spotted 52-year-old Rodney Holland ditching the ammunition outside 334 E. 29th St. at 12:43 a.m. on Jan. 15, officials said.

The officers picked up four .22-caliber pistol rounds and 36 .22-caliber rifle rounds from the ground where Holland tossed them, according to a criminal complaint.

In statements to the arresting officers, Holland said he didn’t have a weapon to go along with the bullets.

“I’ve never owned a gun,” Holland said, according to police. “I don’t have a permit.”

Prosecutors charged Holland with one count of unlawful possession of ammunition and one count of unlawful possession of shotgun or rifle ammunition, and a judge released Holland after he paid $500 bail, court records show. He is due back in court on Feb. 25.

A lawyer for Holland did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
