LONG ISLAND CITY — Snagging a city municipal ID is about to get easier, as the city plans to open a pop-up enrollment site in the heart of Queens Plaza later this month.

The offices of the Consulate General of Ecuador, located at 24-15 Queens Plaza North, will be a sign-up site for the free IDNYC program from Jan. 19 to Feb. 17, according to State Sen. Michael Gianaris' office.

The cards — available to any city resident 14 and older, regardless of their immigration status — can be used as identification with the police, as well as to open up bank accounts, get library cards and gain free entry to a number of city museums and cultural institutions.

"Pop-Up IDNYC enrollment sites allow our community the opportunity to gain access to the benefits of this helpful program,” Gianaris said in a statement. "I am sure this temporary site will be a success and look forward to more like it."

There is also a permanent IDNYC enrollment center at LaGuardia Community College. A full map of locations can be found here.

The municipal ID program launched last year, and was so popular that people were initially forced to wait in line for hours to snag one of the cards.

In December, the city extended the free enrollment period for the program through the end of 2016.

The Queens Plaza enrollment site will be open from Jan. 19 to Feb. 17 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m. It will close at noon on Feb. 17.
