QUEENS — Residents who want to get a municipal identification card can now visit a new IDNYC enrollment center which opened Tuesday at the Briarwood branch of the Queens Library.

The pop-up site, which launched at 85-12 Main St., near the Briarwood subway station and Archbishop Molloy High School, will remain open until Jan. 13.

Demand for municipal IDs, which are available for all residents 14 and older regardless of their immigration status, has been very high. In the first six months of the program, which was launched in January, nearly 400,000 cards were issued, according to the mayor's office.

The cards provide proof of identity and access to basic city services. They can be used to join libraries, enter public buildings and open bank accounts, and also come with a number of benefits including free membership at 40 cultural institutions. They cannot, however, be used as ID in bars.

There are currently 29 enrollment centers throughout the city, as well as several pop-up centers that have been rotating locations.

The Briarwood enrollment center will be open on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m., on Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can make an appointment by visiting www.nyc.gov/idnyc or by calling 311.
