NYPD Officer Released from Custody After Sexually Abusing Girl, DA Says

By Aidan Gardiner | December 17, 2015 9:06am

BROOKLYN — An NYPD officer was released after he was arrested for having sex with a girl below the age of 13 for about three years, prosecutors said.

Officer Jacob Sabbagh, 33, who NYPD officials said carried out building maintenance for the department, sexually abused the girl between June 2005 and March 2008, prosecutors said.

The girl did not report the abuse until she turned 16, prosecutors said.

It took "a few years" for the case to reach prosecutors, they said. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the delay.

Sabbagh was off-duty when he was arrested in Sunset Park Wednesday, NYPD officials said.

He was arraigned that afternoon, pleaded not guilty and was then released, court records show.

An NYPD spokesman did not have further details about Sabbagh or his case, referring all inquiries to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.
