NEW YORK CITY — If you're looking to avoid shelling out of dollars for bottle service or a few watered-down drinks at a packed bar this New Year's Eve, you might want to swap the club clothes for some live music.
Here's a list of some concerts going on around the city on Dec. 31:
► Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Rough Trade Records
Brooklyn’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are playing a series of living room shows during the first month of 2016. Check them out at a more traditional venue when they play Rough Trade Records.
The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $30.
► Gogol Bordello at Terminal 5
New York’s legendary gypsy punk rockers, Gogol Bordello, are still going strong and always put on a frenetic live show. They will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of album “Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike” by playing the album at Terminal 5 on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31.
You can get a two-day pass for $50 or just the New Year’s Eve show for $35.
► Deer Tick at Brooklyn Bowl
Deer Ticks’ country-tinged indie rock lends itself well to providing a soundtrack for bowling in the New Year. Check them out at Brooklyn Bowl with T. Hardy Morris & The Hardnocks. Doors are at 6 p.m. and the show is at 9 p.m. The show is sold out, but there will be some tickets available the day of the show for $50 at the door starting at 6 p.m.
► They Might Be Giants at Music Hall of Williamsburg
TMBG released their 17th studio album this year, “Glean,” which features their classic sound that could lead to some serious head bobbing and maybe even some dancing. You never know.
Doors are at 10 p.m. and the show starts at 11 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
► Macy Gray at Iridium
Macy Gray’s sound touches on everything from neo soul to R&B to jazz. She is sure to fill you with emotion, which could aid in some end-of-the-year reflection. She is playing an early show at the Iridium at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $65.
► The Fab Faux at City Winery
The Fab Faux is considered one of the best Beatles tribute bands out there. If you are a fanatic or just a casual fan of the famed Liverpudlians then this could be a great way to ring in the New Year. The band is doing a late show at City Winery. Doors are at 10 p.m. and the show starts at 11 p.m. Baby, you're a rich man, but if you still don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars you can reserve a bar stool for $75.
► Harlem Gospel Choir at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
If you’d rather be at home watching the ball drop on your TV then you could always check out the Harlem Gospel Choir at B.B. King’s at 12:30 p.m. That should get you in an ethereal mood for the New Year. Doors are at 11 a.m. and tickets are $25 in advance.
► Justice at a Secret Brooklyn Warehouse Location
French duo Justice are playing a DJ set at a secret Brooklyn warehouse party. There are still some tickets available starting at $125. Just make sure you find out how the location will be reveled to you.
► Garland Jeffreys at Joe’s Pub
Legendary Brooklyn-born guitarist Garland Jeffreys is playing an intimate show with Savannah Jeffreys at Joe’s Pub. Doors are at 6 p.m. and the show is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50.
► The Rub at The Bell House
The Rub is a classic, much-beloved Brooklyn dance party, that is all about good unpretentious vibes, read: no bottle service or dress code. The Bell House has ample dance floor space under is vaulted, wood ceiling. The New Year’s Eve show features DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven. Doors are at 10 p.m. and tickets are $50.
