QUEENS — A man was fatally struck by a car in Long Island City Wednesday night, police said.

The 54-year-old pedestrian, whose name was not immediately released, was crossing eastbound over Van Dam Street outside the crosswalk about 9:21 p.m. when a 2007 Pontiac G5, heading south on Van Dam, hit him near Starr Avenue, NYPD officials said.

The pedestrian suffered severe head and leg injuries, police said. He was later pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, police said.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, remained on the scene and was not immediately arrested, police said.
