HELL'S KITCHEN — Police officials revealed a $30 million stable for the city's Mounted Unit on Wednesday.

The $30 million facility is located at 553 W. 53rd St. on the ground floor of the luxury rental building the Mercedes House and was one of the stipulations developer Two Trees agreed to while building the massive residential development above.

"Pulling up it didn't look like a stable but it sure smells like one," Commissioner Bill Bratton joked at the ceremony.

The stable has 27 separate horse stalls, two hot water horse showers, automatic water feeders for a constant supply of fresh water for horses and a broad indoor riding ring for the horses to exercise in.

"It's absolutely beautiful," said Mounted Unit's Sergeant Donald Boyle of the new facility. "They deserve it, they work very hard every day for us."

The horses used to be stabled at Pier 76 where police operate a tow pound.
