EAST VILLAGE — More than $900,000 has been allocated to renovate two playgrounds in Tompkins Square Park — and now the city wants residents to sound off on the improvements it should make.

The Parks Department is holding a scoping meeting on Nov. 17 at St. Brigid's Church to give locals a chance to give input on the proposed project, which will affect two playgrounds by East 7th Street and Avenue B.

The play areas are heavily used by neighborhood children and nearby nursey and head start programs, but the spaces have not been renovated in more than a decade, said Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, who allocated the funding for the project.

Using residents’ comments, the Parks Department will develop a schematic design that will be presented to Community Board 3 for public review.

The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, located at 119 Avenue B, although the entrance will be on East 8th Street.
