MORRISANIA — Carmelo Anthony is coming to The Bronx to help some needy families celebrate Thanksgiving.

The New York Knicks superstar will be in the borough on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. to provide 800 Bronx families with a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of home necessities like shampoo, conditioner and lotion, and a box of Avon products.

The giveaway will take place on Union Avenue at Word of Life International Church, an institution that is well-known in the neighborhood for its massive food drives. It has pre-selected the families that will receive the supplies.

Word of Life is working with the Carmelo Anthony Foundation and the nonprofit group Feed the Children to put on the food giveaway.

“We believe that no child should go to bed hungry in a land where there is plenty of food,” Feed the Children Interim CEO and President Travis Arnold said in a statement. “But the reality is, millions of boys and girls, right here in our own backyard, face this hardship every day."

Rev. John Udo-Okon, the pastor at Word of Life, said he was excited for Anthony to come to the church and help shine a spotlight on the work they do.

"It’s one of those great opportunities for us to show the world what we’ve been doing to support the families that are in The Bronx," he said.

"I love basketball, yes," he continued, "and as a New Yorker, I’m a Knicks fan."
