Saturday, Nov. 14

Putting Your Garden to Bed Workshop

Where: Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston
When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The NYC Compost project will host a workshop to help you prepare your gardens for the winter weather. The $5 workshop will cover composting, planting cover crops, applying mulch covers and sowing cold weather crops. Register online for the event or call 718-425-3525.

NYSAI Art Auction and Fest

Where: Deep Tanks Studio, 150 Bay St., St. George
When: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

NYSAI Press, which publishes a biannual literary magazine, will host an art auction to help raise money for its winter issue. Local artists like Danielle Barone, Julie Bentsen, Jack Freedman and more will show and sell their work and the event will have two group art projects anybody who attends can contribute to. The event has a $5 suggested donation.

Gatsby: From the Page to the Silver Screen

Where: Richmondtown Library, 200 Clarke Ave., Richmond Town
When: 2 p.m.

Staten Island OutLOUD continues its monthly series on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel "The Great Gatsby" but this time it will focus on the book's move to the big screen. Filmmaker Dean Thomas will explore the good and the bad about three cinematic adaptions of the book: the 1949 version, the 1979 version and the most recent one in 2013 starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

► "Home" Opening Reception

Where: Art on the Terrace, 776 Richmond Terrace, Livingston
When: 6 to 9 p.m.

The Staten Island Creative Community will celebrate its inaugural exhibit inside its new gallery space, Art on the Terrace, with an opening reception on Saturday. The exhibit, "Home," features members of the art group creating pieces based on the concept of home in various mediums. The gallery opens at noon and the reception starts at 6 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 15

Staten Island SEEN Artist's Panel and Exhibition Reception

Where: Staten Island Museum, 1000 Richmond Terrace Building A, Livingston
When: 2 to 5 p.m.

The Staten Island Museum will host an artist's panel talk and reception for the exhibit "Staten Island SEEN," which has work from various artists documenting Staten Island's landscape. From 2 to 3:30 p.m., artists Diana Horowitz, Ron Milewics and Bill Murphy will join museum curator of art Robert Bunkin for a discussion on painting specific locales, the sense of place and the challenges of contemporary landscape painting. The discussion will be followed by an Exhibition Reception and is free with museum admission.

► Gatsby in the Tavern

Where: Tavern at Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave., Richmond Town
When: 2 p.m.

Staten Island OutLOUD will gather into the tavern at Historic Richmond town as museum staff and local historical Patricia Salmon will take visitors back to the age of the "Great Gatsby" on Staten Island. Museum staff will have costumes from the Roaring Twenties and also accessories guests can try on while Salmon shares stories about the murder, mayhem and rum-runners of the Prohibition Era on Staten Island. The event is free and open to the public.
