QUEENS — Police have arrested and charged a second suspect in the death of a 33-year-old man who was fatally shot during a robbery of $5,000 in St. Albans in March that was allegedly orchestrated by the victim's girlfriend, authorities said Friday.

Rushawn Lindsay, 23, of Kew Gardens Hills, was charged with second-degree murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Michael Jonathan, of South Jamaica, was standing with his girlfriend Natasha Mohabeer, 30, at the corner of Fonda Avenue and Mayville Street on March 26, just before 3 p.m. when Lindsay walked up to them, pulled out a gun and demanded money, police said.

Jonathan was believed to be carrying $5,000 in cash, which his girlfriend knew about, police said.

The two men started fighting, police said, and during the struggle Lindsay shot Jonathan in the stomach.

Jonathan was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said that while Lindsay fled with the cash, Mohabeer stayed at the scene. She claimed to police that she didn't know the gunman.

But during the investigation, detectives realized that she had orchestrated the botched robbery, police said.

It was not clear how she knew Lindsay, police said Friday.

Mohabeer, who has at least 7 prior arrests, including for prostitution, bail jumping and assault, was arrested on March 27, and arraigned on charges of murder and robbery, police said.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 13, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.

Lindsay also has at least 7 prior arrests, including robbery, grand larceny and fleeing from a police officer.

Information about his attorney was not immediately available.
