FLUSHING — The man who was arrested in September for killing a woman and leaving her body in a trunk was indicted on murder charges Friday, police and prosecutors said.

Luis Zambrano, 30, was arrested on Sept. 18 in Daleville, Va., for the murder of Angie Escobar, 28, who was found dead in the trunk of a car on Sept. 10, according to the NYPD.

Aside from murder, Zambrano was also charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon, intimidation of a witness and tampering with physical evidence for trying to clean up the crime scene, police said.

On Sept. 10, officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked near the intersection of 22nd Avenue and Murray Street and noticed a foul odor coming from the trunk, police said.

When they opened the trunk, they found Escobar inside with stab wounds to her torso, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Escobar was last seen on Sept. 4 in her Queens Village home and was reported missing four days later, police said.

Zambrano lives near where the body was found and was last seen driving the car, police said.

He's been arrested 22 previous times since 2001 for various violent and non-violent crimes, with his last arrest on March 16 for burglary, police said.

A spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney said that it took more than a month to charge Zambrano with the crime because "the matter was under investigation."

Zambrano's scheduled to be arraigned next week.
