Westbeth Flea Market

Where: 136 Bank St. at the corner of Washington Street, West Village. (Elevator access at 55 Bethune Street at the corner of Washington Street.)
When: Friday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

“Collect like an artist” is the tagline of the annual Westbeth Flea Market, where the residents of the affordable artists’ housing at Westbeth donate their own art, clothing, home goods, jewelry and collectibles. The goal is to raise money to plant trees and flowers for the building’s public space and the surrounding streets. Now in its 31st year, the market is staffed by the acclaimed artists, actors and writers of Westbeth, and has regular customers who flock to the sale from all across the city for great deals on unique items.

Arnold Schönberg's Erwartung - A Performance by Robin Rhode

Where: Broadway Plaza between 42nd and 43rd Streets in Times Square
When: Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

A dramatic operatic piece performed by French soprano singer Carole Sidney Louis will take over Times Square, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Louis will perform a re-imagined version of the opera "Erwatung," written by Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg in 1909.

Friday, November 6

The Subtle Image: Exhibit Opening

Where: Dejavu Gallery, 223 E. 60th St., Upper East Side
When: 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

View surrealist art, centered on spiritual energy and subconscious desires, by 13 artists at Dejavu, which is renowned for exhibiting surrealist art by Max Ernst and figurative works by Andy Warhol. Following the free opening, the art will be on display daily until Nov. 21, from 1 to 9 p.m.

Better Than You

Where: Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center, 530 W. 166th St., Washington Heights
When: 7:30 p.m.

The People’s Theatre Project presents their new, interactive play featuring 15 local, community actors. The play highlights various aspects of racism, violence and other concerns within the Latino communities.

Saturday, November 7

Free Dance Performances Inspired by Public Art

Where: 2 Columbus Circle, in front of the Museum of Art and Design
When: 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Choreographer Dylan Crossman will perform a piece inspired by and in response to artist Wendell Castle's new sculptural furniture in Columbus Circle. Crossman will be joined by two other dancers in the free performances.

A Taste of Yorkville

Where: Meeting location will be given upon purchase of ticket.
When: 2:30 p.m.

Take a culinary tour of Yorkville, which was home to Hungarian, Czech and Irish immigrants during the late 18th century, by stopping at local shops like Schaller & Weber and Glaser’s Bake Shop and tasting their savory and sweet specialties. The tour is $10 for members of the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts and $20 for non-members.

French Culture Fest: Climate Change Discussion

Where: Albertine, 972 Fifth Ave., Upper East Side
When: 3:00 p.m.

Listen in on a discussion with Time Magazine science writer Jeffrey Kluger and three Columbia University professors about combating climate change. High school students from the Lycée Français of New York and other local schools will debate the issues as well.

New York Opera Forum Performance

Where: 96th Street New York Public Library, 96th Street, between Lexington and Park avenues, Upper East Side
When: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The New York Opera Forum performs the complete operas of Orfeo Ed Eurdice by Gluck and Cavalleria and Rusticana by Mascagni.

Mini Maker Faire

Where: Barnes & Noble, 33 E. 17th St., Union Square
When: 1:00 p.m.

Meet CEOs and founders in the tech industry and hear them talk about how they’ve gotten where they are now.

Sunday, November 8

“Raise the Roof” Movie Screening and Discussion

Where: Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Pl., Battery Park
When: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The documentary follows two professors who set out to build a replica of the mural-covered wooden synagogues of 18th century Poland — the last of which were destroyed by the Nazis. That replica became the centerpiece of the new Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. Discussion with the film-makers follows. Tickets are $12 dollars.

Event Name Godiva Grand Opening at Macy’s in Herald Square

Where: 6th Floor of Macy’s in Herald Square 151 W. 34th St., Midtown
When: Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Godiva is opening a store on the 6th floor of Macy’s and giving away free chocolate dipped strawberries to the first 250 customers.

Lower East Side Cider Festival

Where: Orchard Street
When: Noon to 4 p.m.

The first ever festival – located on Orchard Street – will feature cider makers and apple growers from across the state as well as local restaurant, which will pair the drinks with cider-friendly dishes. Activities include cider tastings and classes, an apple pie contest, a make-your-own caramel apples cart. The free neighborhood festival is part of the Fifth Annual Cider Week NYC, which runs through Nov. 15.
