CHELSEA — A woman in a wheelchair was hit by a livery cab in Chelsea Thursday morning, authorities and witnesses said.

The woman, whose name and age were not immediately released, was struck by the SUV near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and West 23rd Street, an FDNY spokesman said.

The victim's legs appeared scraped and swollen, witnesses said.

"She was obviously in pain, you know? She was crying and making painful noises," said a nearby construction worker who only gave his name as Vince.

"I think the wheelchair may have saved her life, because without it he might have run her over," he added.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital and her condition was not immediately clear, officials said.

The driver, who witnesses said had Taxi and Limousine Commission plates, remained on the scene.

An NYPD spokesman did not immediately have further information.
