ELMHURST — A driver who ran over two pedestrians after losing control of his sports car driving more than 100 miles per hour in 2013 has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, according to the Queens DA.

Leonid Redko, now 24 and of Rego Park, was speeding his 2014 yellow Chevy Camaro on the service road of Queens Boulevard near Broadway on the morning of Nov. 22, 2013 when he lost control, according to the criminal complaint.

He hit a phone kiosk and a lamppost then jumped the curb — running over Man Chit Cheng, 59, and Wang Mu Lin, 41, as they walked to work, police said.

Redko told police officers during an interview on Jan. 15, 2014 with the NYPD's Highway Collision investigators that he accelerated to between 50 and 60 miles per hour, which is more than the 30 miles per hour on the road at the time.

He told investigators he "felt a thumping in the car and then the car was spinning," documents show.

Data from the car, though, found Redko was driving at 111 miles per hour just before he lost control.

"This was an absolutely senseless tragedy with deadly consequences that could have easily been avoided," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown in a statement.
