GREENPOINT — A group of men beat a cab driver and damaged his car before taking off with his wallet, according to police.

The 55-year-old victim was resting inside his taxi on Bedford Avenue near McCarren Park just before 3 a.m. on Oct. 4 when somebody started banging on the vehicle, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

One of the four men who approached the car then broke the passenger side-view mirror, police said. When the driver stepped out of his green cab to confront the group, he was told to stay inside, according to officials.

The suspects then broke the victim’s other side-view mirror, prompting the driver to again get out of the vehicle.

The men punched the victim in the body, face and back of the head, eventually knocking him out, police said.

The suspects fled the scene with the driver’s wallet, which did not have any cash in it, according to police.

Paramedics took the driver to Woodhull Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose and two black eyes.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspects Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
