LOWER EAST SIDE — A developer has filed paperwork to build a new seven-story modular building on properties previously owned by a Jewish burial society, records show.

Developer Daniel Wise plans to merge two adjoining lots to build 10 residential units on top of medical and retail offices at 201 E. Broadway, according to an application filed with the Department of Buildings on Oct. 20.

The units would be spread out across the building’s 14,872 square feet of residential space, according to the application, with two residences planned for each floor between the second and fifth floors. The sixth and seventh floors would contain one unit each and an outdoor recreation space is planned for the rooftop.

The structure would also have 1,968 square feet allotted for a “community facility” and 3,617 square feet of commercial space, according to the application, which was first reported by New York YIMBY.

Wise declined to comment on project, saying it was still in its early stages.

The properties, located at 201 and 203 E. Broadway, were owned by the United Hebrew Community of New York, which purchased the buildings at the turn of the century, according to its website. The society, which operated out of the buildings, helped provide proper burial rites for members of the neighborhood's Jewish community for decades.

It sold the structures to 201 EB Development III, LLC for $8.5 million last August, according to city records.

Demolition permits have been filed with the DOB, but not yet granted, according to the agency's records.
