Saturday, Oct. 17

Scarecrow Festival 2015

Where: Blue Heron Park, 222 Poillon Ave., Annadale

Bring your own clothes and make a scarecrow at a festival inside Blue Heron Park on Saturday. The event includes carnival games, crafts and a performance from jug band the Wahoo Skiffle Crazies. The festival is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the scarecrow kit costs $10.

ABC's of Jazz

Where: Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston

The Lincoln Center's Boro-Linc series will teach Staten Island kids to appreciate jazz with the WeBop program. The free event, from 1 to 3 p.m., will have interactive workshops and an audience jam session with a jazz band playing nursery rhymes. The WeBop program is designed for children from eight months to eight years old.

Where: Flagship Brewing Company, 40 Minthorne St., Tompkinsville

Sample the finest that Staten Island's home brewers have to offer at the second annual PourMania event that benefits the non-profit Pour Standards Homebrew Club. For $25, visitors get unlimited samples — while supplies last — of beers, ciders and meads from 25 homebrewers in the club. The money helps them put on their annual autism fundraiser and 10 percent of the proceeds will go toward Staten Island Arts. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and tickets can be bought online.

Staten Island Jazz Fest

Where: Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston

The Universal Temple of the Arts 28th annual Staten Island Jazz Fest returns to the Music Hall of Snug Harbor with live music, dance, art and spoken word performances. Performers include the Danny Mixon Quartet, the Winard Harper Ensemble, and Betty Shirley. The fest will run from 2 to 7 p.m. and tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children up to 17 and $20 for students and seniors. Visit the UTA's website or call 718-273-5610 to buy tickets.

► El Gran Gatsby

Where: Project Hospitality, 1546 Castleton Ave., Port Richmond

As part of their monthly reading project of the Great Gatsby, Staten Island OutLOUD will host a Spanish language reading and conversation about F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel at 3 p.m. The event will include book giveaways, refreshments and bilingual reading for children.
