HELLS KITCHEN — A photographer who draws inspiration from the bustling streets of Hell's Kitchen and Times Square will display some of his bold images at a local gallery in an exposition that opens Thursday.

The images are "larger than life, brighter than neon," said photographer Rick Campanella, 56, who goes by Ricky Camp

Camp captures Manhattanhenge at Times Square, typical nightlife scenes from Ninth and Tenth Avenues and other hyper-real street scenes of blurred taxis and scattering pigeons.

"There's funkiness everywhere, it's a funky neighborhood," Camp said. "It's not a posh neighborhood, it's not a low-class neighborhood ... it's a funky, gay neighborhood and I think that's what I get across with my photos."

The collection of 17 photographs include a majority of shots from Hell's Kitchen and Times Square, then a sprinkling from other parts of the city and from his travels to the Netherlands.

“Cityscapes and Urban Vignettes” opens Thursday night at Jadite Galleries located at 662 Tenth Ave.

The opening will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then the photos will remain on display through the end of October. Photographs are priced between $300 to $750.
