TIMES SQUARE — A man claiming to be a police officer raped a woman in a Midtown hotel room, police said.

The rape occurred in 2014 at The Manhattan at Times Square at 790 Seventh Ave., but the 30-year-old victim, who is from Oregon, reported the attack on Sept. 21, according to police.

The attack happened on April 7, 2014 when the victim was in her hotel room and a man she didn't know knocked on the door claiming he was a police officer. He threatened her with some kind of knife and then raped her, police said.

After the assault, the man took $100 from the victim, police said.

Police confirmed they are launching an investigation into the year-old rape.

David Thompson, the security director at The Manhattan at Times Square, said he had not heard about the assault and police hadn't contacted him as of Tuesday afternoon.

"It's highly doubtful that there's going to be footage from that long ago," Thompson said.
