FAR ROCKAWAY — The death of a 34-year-old Maryland woman who traveled to Queens for cosmetic butt injections has been ruled a homicide by the city's medical examiner.

Kelly Mayhew traveled to a home on Dickens Street in Far Rockaway on May 30 for the illegal procedure that typically involves silicone implants, police said.

At some point during the procedure, conducted in a makeshift medical room in the basement, Mayhew went into cardiac arrest, police said.

The woman conducting the procedure fled after Mayhew was brought out on a stretcher — and hasn't been heard from since, police said.

On Wednesday, the office of the chief medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

The official cause of death was "systemic silicone emboli due to cosmetic silicone injections of buttocks," spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said in an email.

In May, the owner of the home, Joan Doyle, said she rented her basement out to a former co-worker who needed a place to stay.

She wasn't aware of what was going on, but was so alarmed by a steady stream of women coming in and out that she asked the co-worker to leave by June.

"I thought something was going on, too much women were coming back and forth," she said.
