YORKVILLE — A restaurant that landed on the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list this year for affordability and taste was slapped with a slew of health code violations during a recent inspection, including flies, evidence of mice and dirty food surfaces, according to health department records.

On Sept. 25, DNAinfo New York reported that J.G. Melon on Third Avenue was one of four Yorkville restaurants that made it on the renowned list.

And while it was recognized for its taste and prices, the eatery raked up 29 violation points during its most recent Aug. 12 inspection, including transgressions like evidence of mice, improperly installed plumbing and storing food at unsafe temperatures.

Other violations include improper thawing procedures and failing to keep the restaurant vermin proof.

It's grade is still pending, and the city Department of Health did not immediately respond to request for information on the timing of J.G. Melon's next inspection.

A manager at the restaurant was not available for comment and an employee declined to comment.

J.G. Melon is known for its burgers, but also serves, salads, steaks, fish and a selection of beers.

The other restaurants that made the Michelin Guide's list — Uva, San Matteo and Beyoglu — earned "As" in their latest inspections with few violations.

The Bib Gourmand awards are given to restaurants that serve two quality courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less, according to Michelin.

The Michelin Guide did not immediately respond to request for comment.
