UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The mother of a newborn girl found after she was thrown out a 7th floor window was charged with murder Tuesday according to the NYPD.

Jennifer Berry, 33, was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter for allegedly throwing her newborn child out a bathroom window Monday afternoon. The baby, whose umbilical cord was still attached, suffered head trauma and died of "blunt force impact," the medical examiner determined Tuesday.

The tiny infant was discovered behind 130 W. 183rd St. by the wife of the building's super, who was taking out the garbage about 2:40 p.m., sources said.

"The baby was by the garbage out there. It was a newborn baby. The umbilical cord was still attached. It was connected," said Janiqua Torres, 33, who was visiting family in the building at the time.

"It was a mess. It was just horrible."

The infant girl was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Police canvassed the building, knocking on doors and scouring the area, sources said.

Looking down from the roof, detectives noticed a seventh-floor bathroom window that was stained with blood, sources said.

They knocked on that apartment's door for 20 minutes before Berry answered, sources said.

She said she was only visiting the apartment, which belonged to her boyfriend who was in the bathroom, according to sources.

Investigators cooled their heels waiting for the boyfriend and finally went into the bathroom and found blood in the shower, sources said.

Berry then told police that she birthed a stillborn baby and threw it out the window along with the placenta, sources said.

She had also told her boyfriend four months ago that she terminated the pregnancy, sources said.

The mother was expected to be arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court.
