LOWER MANHATTAN — There's still work to be done on "The Hills" — Governors Island's new elevated parkland, but one key feature is ready: the view.

The Trust for Governors Island is inviting the public this weekend — the last weekend the island is open this season — to tour the massive, waterfront hills that have been constructed from recycled construction and fill materials.

The mounds still just look like huge piles of dirt, but visitors will get to see the sweeping views of Lower Manhattan and the New York Harbor, from 80 feet in the air.

When completed, the four hills will rise between 25 and 80 feet, and be covered in grass, winding paths, and on one hill, even a variety of slides.

Here's a video rendering of the elevated park, now slated to be complete before Spring 2016, when Governors Island reopens to the public.

Tours will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, head to Governors Island's website.
