MEATPACKING DISTRICT — A woman was arrested for stealing another woman's purse at a Meatpacking District nightclub, police said.

Police said the 27-year-old owner of the white purse saw the 24-year-old alleged thief rifling through her purse after she left it, with her credit card and debit card, at a table at Catch at 21 Ninth Ave. on Sept. 12 about 3 a.m.

The victim went over to the younger woman and told her the white bag was hers, then led her to a black bag that she believed belonged to the 24-year-old, police said.

Moments later, police said, she saw her white bag was missing and began looking for it. Police said her husband went outside to look for it and saw the 24-year-old with it over her shoulder.

The 24-year-old handed the purse back to the woman's husband, police said.

The woman was arrested and charged with felony grand larceny and multiple counts of criminal possession of stolen property, according to court records.

Prosecutors asked a judge to hold the woman on $5,000 bail, but the judge let her go. She is due back in court on Dec. 15.

Her lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
