EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A man who claimed he'd never robbed anyone before tried to take cash from a local resident at knifepoint, police said.

The victim, 26, was walking up the stairs to his apartment on Metropolitan Avenue near Catherine Street on Tuesday, Sep. 15 just before 2 a.m. when the man grabbed him from behind, police said.

The man then showed a knife and said "I just want money. I never done this before," police said.

The victim told the man he didn't have any money, and the man fled, police said.

No property was taken, and the victim was not injured.

The suspect was about 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and tan slacks, police said.

No one has been arrested for the incident.
