Funeral Service Set for Cuomo Staffer Shot at West Indian Day Celebrations

BROOKLYN — Funeral services for Gov. Andrew Cuomo staffer Carey Gabay who was shot during Labor Day's pre-West Indian Day parade celebrations will be held in Clinton Hill Friday and Saturday.

Gabay, 43, died last Wednesday at Kings County Hospital, nine days after he was shot in the head in Crown Heights.

The viewing will take place at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Lafayette Avenue and St. James Place from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday. The wake will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

A private funeral and burial will be held at the church on Saturday.

Gabay grew up in public housing in The Bronx and then attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School before taking a job with the Empire State Development Corp.

Police are still searching for his shooter and have offered a $12,500 reward for information.

Gabay is survived by his wife, Trenelle Gabay, his mother and stepfather, Aubrey and Rupert McNaughton, sisters Crystal Gabay Nurse and Stephanie Gabay Smith and brother, Aaron McNaughton.
